Running Biomechanics with Geoff Burns

Although the commentators shy away from acknowledging, Geoff Burns PhD (Running Biomechanics Specialist) was right on the money last night with the 1500m Olympic final ran significantly faster in the new ‘super spikes’. In his latest article “Bouncing behavior of sub-four minute milers” he compared the biomechanics of some of these Olympic level 1500 m runners in his elite cohort (mean PR: 3:37.3) against a highly trained 1500 m cohort (mean PR: 4:07.6) concluding that elite level runners had stiffer and less variable spring‐mass systems across speeds.

In Part 2 of the ‘Extra Mile’(Link in bio) discusses the 'spring-mass system', developing more efficient stiffer 'spring-mass systems' and also demystifies cadence.
