COACHES
COACH CRAIG (Warragul/Melbourne)
Craig is a sub 4 minute miler and Australian representative, who spent over a decade training and competing alongside the best athletes in the world at the Very Nice Track Club in Ann Arbor, Michigan under Coach Ron Warhurst.
A small town born 'n bred Gippslander, Craig quickly fell in love with running and has dedicated his life to it since. He would spend much of his youth running up and down the foothills surrounding the Macalister Valley, which would help him set a number of little athletics/junior state records, as well as win national school titles over the 800m. As a senior athlete, Craig set personal bests of 1:47 - 800m, 3:36 - 1500m, 3:57 - Mile, as well a 3:53 road mile to claim 4th in the 2012 5th Ave Mile.
His own personal career of rising through the ranks from a junior country athlete to the international level allows him to draw upon experiences to help with the development of athletes at all levels to achieve their goals. Craig has a university Graduate degree in High Performance Sport, Exercise Science (Strength and Conditioning), and a Bachelors of Business (Sport Management).
In 2020, Craig coached Rachel O'Brien (800m) to become the first female athlete from the Wellington Shire to compete at the Australian Track & Field Olympic Trials.
COACH DENIS (Sale/Maffra)
Denis Huffer is a registered level 2 Athletics Australia coach. With Over 40 years of coaching experience in a variety sports with roles as Australian Sporting Commission Sporting Schools Athletic Coach, Little Athletics Victoria program in schools (LAPS) and Athletics Victoria (AV) Development Squad Coach.
Denis has coached numerous junior athletes from around the Gippsland region to state and national level competitions in sprints, hurdles, middle/long distance/cross country running and jump events. As well as being instrumental in helping many athletes to state and national levels in a wide range of sports such as football, cricket, badminton, soccer, swimming, netball, tennis and basketball. In 1997/98, Denis was awarded top honours as Victorian Cricket Association Volunteer for outstanding contribution to Cricket.
As an athlete, Denis was the Gippsland secondary school sport record holder over the 800m. He was also drafted by Footscray (Western Bulldogs) in 1974.
